◤FIFA World Cup in Qatar◢ Gareth Bale scores late penalty after early Joe Rodon's near own-goal scare to force United States into a 1-1 draw..
11/22/2022, 12:07Wales left it late to draw 1-1 with the United States in the thrilling Group B group stage first round match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the Al-Rayyan Stadium on Monday.
In the first half, Joe Rodon headed the ball straight at the direction of his own goal, fortunately, his teammate Hennessey was able to make a save immediately to save the day. Then, Weah scored and pierced through the hearts of his opponents.
In the second half, Davis's header in the chaotic battle was single-handedly palmed over the crossbar by Matt Turner. Afterwards, Moore's header went slightly over the crossbar. At the critical moment, Bale personally took the penalty and succeeded in scoring. In the end, Wales drew 1-1 with the United States.
First Half
In the 9th minute, Timothy Weah crossed from the edge of the byline on the right side of the box, Rodon, who returned to the defend, tried to block the ball with a header but towards the direction of his own goal, the ball was eventually blocked off by Wayne Hennessey who had to make a flying save, Wales thus escaped from being punished!
In the 36th minute, Christian Pulisic made a through pass from the front, Timothy Weah successfully beaten the offside trap, quickly followed up, got the ball , dribbled into center of the box then strucked the ball towards the empty goal into bottom right corner of the net with his left foot against the outrushing Hennessey, the United States took the lead and broke the deadlock first at 1-0!
At the end of the first half, the United States temporarily led Wales 1-0 into the half time.
Second Half
Both teams switched sides as the game continued. In the 64th minute, Wales got a free kick opportunity. Harry Wilson took the free kick from outside the penalty area and crossed it into the box, causing a scuffle. Tyler Adams headed the ball not far away intially, Ben Davies quickly followed up, threw himself and attempted a header at the center of the box, however his attempt was palmed over the crossbar by Matt Turner with his single hand.
Wilson then took the corner for Wales and crossed it into the box, Kieffer Moore rose high with a header against the outrushing Turner at a very close distance, but his effort slightly just sailed over the crossbar.
In the 80th minute, Aaron Ramsey cuts back from the edge of the byline from the right side of the box, Gareth Bale quickly followed up and was tackled by Walker Zimmerman from the back after receiving the ball at the center of the box, the referee whistled and awarded Wales a penalty. Bale personally took the penalty and slotted it into the net successfully. Wales equalized the United States into 1-1!
As the final whistle is blown, Wales forced the United States into a 1-1 draw and each took with them 1 point.
