Australia narrowly beat Tunisia 0-1 at the Al Janoub Stadium on Saturday in their Group D group stage match during the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.


In the first half, Duke scored with a header, Irving headed slightly wide of the post from close range, Drago was tackled and blocked, and Musakny shot slightly wide of the post from close range. In the second half, the two sides did not have many effective shooting opportunities, and Moy's long-range shot was slightly wide of the crossbar. In the end, Australia was defeated by Tunisia 0-1.




First Half


In the 23rd minute, Craig Goodwin made a low cross from the left wing into the box, Mitchell Duke quickly followed up and scored with a header from the center of the box. Australia broke the deadlock early and took a 0-1 lead!


In the 34th minute, Australia won a corner opportunity, Goodwin took the corner and crossed it into the box, Jackson Irvine rose high and headed towards the goal at a very close distance in front of the right side of the goal, however his attempted was just slightly wide of the right post.


In the 41st minute, Youssef Msakni passes horizontally from the left side of the box, Mohamed Dräger quickly followed up and volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box upon receiving the pass, but his shot blocked off the byline by Harry Souttar who was sliding in.


In the 3rd minute of stoppage time in the first half, Issam Jebali made a low cross from the edge of the byline on the right wing into the box, Youssef Msakni quickly followed and pushed the ball with his right foot upon receiving the pass at a very close distance, but his shot was just slightly wide of the right post.


At the end of the first half, Tunisia temporarily fell behind Australia 0-1 as half time approached.




Second Half


Both teams switched sides as the game continued. In the 74th minute, Jamie McLaren returned a pass from the front, Aaron Mooy quickly followed up and took a long shot with his right foot from just outside of the penalty area, however his shot just slightly sailed over the crossbar.


Since then, the two sides have not had much real attempts. As the final whistle is blown, Australia narrowly beat Tunisia 0-1.
