Borussia Dortmund came from behind and drew 1-1 with Sevilla on the matchday 4 of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League Group Stage at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.
In the first half, Nianzou headed in a free kick from Rakitić to give the visiting La Liga side the lead. Later, Bellingham volleyed to equalize the score for BVB. In the second half, Lamela attempted to shoot from close range courtesy of Acuña's corner, but Kobel bravely blocked it in front of the goal line. In the end, Dortmund forced Sevilla into a 1-1 draw. Dortmund temporarily holds the second place with ease on 7 points; Sevilla, which has only accumulated 2 points, is temporarily ranked third in front of Copenhagen with a goal difference advantage.
In the 5th minute, Erik Lamela crossed from the edge of the byline from the left, Tom Rothe headed the ball away not far, José Ángel Carmona picked up the loose ball then made a horizontal back pass, Ivan Rakitić quickly followed up and took a long shot with his right foot from outside the penalty, but his shot was just slightly off the upper right corner of the crossbar. 2 minutes later, Jude Bellingham and Thomas Meunier played a sumptuous one-two. Bellingham quickly followed up into the middle of the penalty area and volleyed the latter's cross with his right foot into the lower center of the net, leaving Bono out of reach, Dortmund equalized Sevilla 1-1! This is also the 4th goal that the England international wonderkid midfielder has scored in the 4th consecutive Champions League game for the Bundesliga giants!
In the 41st minute, Rothe made a horizontal pass from the left. Brandt quickly followed up, got the ball, took a few steps then cuts back a return pass from the edge of the byline on the left side of the penalty area, Bellingham quickly plugged in and fired a right-footed shot from the outside edge of the penalty area, however his shot flew high out of the pitch.
At the end of the first half, the two sides temporarily reached a 1-1 draw and entered halftime.
Both teams changed sides again. In the 49th minute, Youssef En-Nesyri made a horizontal pass from the front. Lamela quickly followed up, got the ball, cut inside and then volleyed with his left foot from outside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by Niklas Süle. 3 minutes later, Karim Adeyemi made a straight pass near the midfield. Brandt quickly followed up, got the ball, took a few steps before taking a long shot with his right foot from outside the penalty area, but his shot was blocked off for a corner by Nemanja Gudelj.
In the 67th minute, Sevilla got a corner. Marcos Acuña took the corner and crossed it into the penalty area. The unmarked Lamela quickly followed up and struck with his left foot at a very close distance, however his attempt was outstandingly blocked off the goal line by Gregor Kobel, Sevilla missed the golden opportunity to score again!
Not long after, Bellingham made a horizontal pass from the front. Raphaël Guerreiro stopped the ball, adjusted his angle and then took a long shot with his left foot from outside the penalty area, however his shot was easily saved by Bono. In the 79th minute, Dortmund got a corner. Thorgan Hazard took the corner and crossed it into the penalty area, Mats Hummels rose high in the middle and attempted a header, however his attempt flew high out of the pitch.
As the final whistle blown, Dortmund came back and forced Sevilla into a 1-1 draw, the latter's new head coach Jorge Sampaoli was unable to get a good start to his coaching debut at his new club.
