Liverpool ended their bad run by beating Rangers 2-0 at Anfield on Tuesday in the third round of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
Since the beginning of the season, head coach Jürgen Klopp, who has to endure his squad which were going through endless injuries and a poor start to the season, has been criticized by thousands of people. At the end of the first half, Liverpool led the Scottish Premiership giants 1-0 as they entered halftime.
The game continued with each clubs changing sides. In the 52nd minute, Luis Díaz dribbled into the left side of the penalty area and was maliciously brought down by Leon King, who was chasing back and marking him. The referee immediately whistled to give Liverpool a penalty, Mohamed Salah took a right-footed shot and McGregor failed to save it, Liverpool extended their lead to 2-0!
7 minutes later, Tsimikas made a horizontal pass from the left, Malik Tillman made a mistake while coming back to defend while attempting to block it, after Jota picked up the loose ball, he shot with his left foot from the left side of the penalty area, but his shot was tipped away by McGregor who made a flying save towards the upper left corner. In the 84th minute, Liverpool got a corner opportunity, Tsimikas took the corner and crossed it into the penalty area, Joël Matip rose high in the middle in box with a header, but his attempt went just slightly wide off the right side of the goal.
Soon after, Glen Kamara made a horizontal pass from the left, Rabbi Matondo quickly followed up, got the ball, then dribbled into close range in the left side of the penalty area and made a right-footed shot from a difficult angle, the ball was blocked by Alisson who stretched his legs, and then was blocked in time by Kostas Tsimikas off the goal line, who was returning to defend. Rangers missed the golden opportunity to get a goal back!
The whole game ended as Liverpool beat Rangers 2-0 and successfully returned to the winning ways after the dilemma of being forced to a draw by Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend.
