10 of the sharpest young strikers in Champions League history
4/9/2022, 14:10LONDON -- Participation in the Champions League stage is often one of the considerations for a player in accepting a club's proposal. Understandably, one of the biggest dreams of professional footballers in Europe is to play in the European club's highest caste competition.
Even so, players who finally made their debut in the Champions League, including young players, did not always lead to success. The tight competition in the Champions League stage is sometimes difficult for these players to answer.
However, there are also young players who immediately show impressive performances, and young strikers are no exception. In its development, including when it changed its format in 1992, the Champions League has been filled with young strikers or at least when they are not yet 25 years old.
Based on the goals scored and the steps of the clubs he strengthened, the following is a list of the best young strikers under the age of 21 during the Champions League, based on the report from the Planet Football page, Thursday (7/4/2022):
Thierry Henry (7 Goals)
The French striker made his debut in the Champions League with AS Monaco in the 1997/1998 season. Henry, who was only 20 years old at that time, even managed to score two goals in his debut match in the Champions League when he brought AS Monaco to silence Bayer Leverkusen, 4-0, October 1997 ago.
AS Monaco finally made it to the semifinals of the 1997/1998 Champions League season. AS Monaco's impressive pace can not be separated from the contribution of Henry, who scored seven goals throughout the season. Henry also sits in second place on the list of top scorers in the 1997/1998 Champons League season, three goals ahead of Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero.
John Carew (8 goals)
The former Norwegian national team striker appeared in the Champions League with Rosenborg and Valencia. In total, Carew scored eight goals throughout his appearance in the Champions League. Carew's best achievement in the Champions League was when he led Valencia to the final of the 2000/2001 season. At that time, Carew was only 22 years old.
Javier Saviola (8 goals)
At the age of 19, Saviola came to Barcelona from River Plate in 2001. The Argentine striker scored a total of eight goals in his second season appearing in the Champions League stage, in the 2002/2003 season to be exact. Before turning over 21 years old, Saviola had scored eight goals in the Champions League. Throughout his participation in the Champions League, Saviola has scored goals for four different teams, Barcelona, AS Monaco, Malaga and Olimpiakos.
