According to NBA insiders, 24-year-old guard Austin Reeves hopes to play for the Los Angeles Lakers for a long time, and the Lakers are also planning to keep him and train him to become the main force of the Lakers' future lineup.
Reeves was one of the rising stars the Lakers missed last year. At that time, Reeves was unfortunately unselected in the 2021 league draft. After that, he received a two-way contract provided by the Lakers, and the contract was turned positive one month later, becoming a rookie player of the Lakers.
Last season was Reeves ' first season with the Lakers, and he injected new energy into the rotation in the Lakers' veteran cloud. He relied on efficient three-pointers, key game-winners, and first homers in the game. The triple-double and high-strength physique stood out in the undrafted, and even supported LeBron James and Anthony Davis on defense and offense on the court, becoming a bright role in the Lakers' rotation.
Reeves played in 61 regular-season games last season, averaging 7.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.3 blocks per game in 23.2 minutes per game. He shot 45.9 percent from the field overall and 31.7 percent from 3-point range.
At the same time, Reeves also scored 31 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in a single game last season, setting a record for the first triple-double of his league career. The 24-year-old young defender is a young player that other strong teams yearn for in terms of physique, potential and restrained mentality.
And Reeves prefers to get a high-paying contract to stay with the Lakers rather than go to other teams to develop. Based on the guard's promising future in the league and his worth soaring, the Lakers are not expected to hand over this outstanding young point guard.
