Ahead of the DFL Supercup, Leipzig refuses to be rocked by rumors of Laimer being approached by Bayern Munich
8/4/2022, 20:10JAKARTA - RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedescom confirmed that his side did not want to be influenced by rumors of midfielder Konrad Laimer being approached by Bayern Munich. Leipzig will meet Munich in the season opener, the DFL Supercup or German Super Cup, Saturday (30/7/2022).
Laimer is one of the main supporters of the Leipzig midfield which last season managed to lift the DFB Pokal trophy. Defending German league champions Bayern are reportedly in negotiations to bring Laimer to the Allianz Arena before the 2022/23 league season starts on August 5.
"I'm glad he's my player. As long as nothing else, he's always had my full support and will be treated like any other," Tedesco told a pre-match news conference on Thursday, as reported by Reuters.
"Of course with regard to the rumours, the more time is wasted the harder it is to reach an agreement, so time is on our side. He understands that too and seems to want clarity soon," he added.
Tedesco also made it clear that he has no doubts about Laimer's commitment on the pitch despite the prospect of facing off against his prospective new club.
"It's the first time I've been in this kind of situation, but that kind of thought never crossed my mind," he said when asked if Laimer's form would be affected by the transfer rumours.
"He trains hard. He is an athlete, a strong character, an important player for our team who has the right attitude and mentality. So there is no problem," said Tedesco.
After playing the DFC Supercup match, Leipzig will undergo the inaugural match of the 2022/23 German League at VfB Stuttgart headquarters on Ahaf (7/8/2022).
