Arsenal Denies Want to Bring Marc Overmars to London
2/19/2021, 05:21LONDON - Arsenal have denied any plans to recruit AjaxAmsterdam director Marc Overmars. The man from the Netherlands is rumored to be moving from Ajax to serve as director of football.
Reporting from Tribal Football, Wednesday (10/2), Overmars feels that he has achieved everything that can be done in the midst of the financial crisis.
Previously, Overmars was linked with leaving and apart from Arsenal being linked with a return to Barcelona ahead of the 2021/2022 season. Overmars is no stranger to the Barcelona atmosphere. He was part of the Blaugrana when he was a player between 2000 and 2004.
Quoted from football Espana, Monday (8/2), Overmars recorded 100 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. After retiring as a professional player in 2009, he worked at Ajax since 2011 and took up his role as sporting director in 2012.
The former winger developed a reputation as one of the brightest young minds in the football business. And according to De Telegraaf's report quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is targeting him to be part of a future project.
His contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena will expire at the end of the season. Ajax also knew that Barcelona was eyeing him, including Arsenal. The current director of football for Barcelona is Ramon Planes. His position is not safe because it depends on the results of the club presidential election in March.
Barcelona is preparing for major changes from all sectors. Starting from players to people on the board of directors. This change had already started with the presence of Ronald Koeman as a coach.
The news about him going to the Emirate Stadium seems difficult to materialize. Because Arsenal already have Edu as technical director and the chief executive is held by Vinai Venkatesham. And Arsenal will soon show a new head of operations so there is no room for Overmars at Arsenal.
