JAKARTA -- Mikel Arteta thanked Arsenal fans after his team lost 0-5 to host Manchester City in the English Premier League continued at the Etihad Stadium, Saturday (28/8) night. According to the Arsenal coach, it is not easy for the fans to keep their support flowing in the midst of a series of poor results early in the season suffered by the Gunners.
The Gunners who were already trailing 0-2 to City had to continue the match with only 10 men as Granit Xhaka was given a straight red card in the 35th minute. In the remaining time, Arsenal's goal conceded three more times. Throughout the match, they only once fired a shot that did not meet the target towards the City defense.
"I have to thank the three thousand fans who came here on this difficult day and continued to support them. The players who came to them after the game must have felt the same way as I did," Arteta said after the match, quoted from Arsenal's official website.
These results make Arsenal free fall to the bottom of the standings with a value of zero. Arsenal are yet to score and have conceded nine times.
Arteta did not want to blame the players for the defeat. Moreover, they have to appear with only 10 people since the 35th minute.
However, he is determined that Arsenal will soon find a turning point after the international break in the next two weeks. Arsenal are scheduled to host promoted Norwich City at the Emirates Stadium on September 11.
