Aston Villa officially announced the signing of Real Betis Spanish left wing-back Álex Moreno..

Aston Villa announced on their official website on Wednesday that the club has officially signed Spanish left wing-back Álex Moreno from Real Betis.

Although Aston Villa did not elaborate on how long the contract signed between Moreno and the club will be in detail in the official statement, according to Fabrizio Romano, renowned Italian transfer journalist of Sky Sports, Moreno has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal which runs until the summer of 2026 with the Villans. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 15 jersey vacated by Burkina Faso international winger Bertrand Traoré who left the club away on-loan last summer.

After completing his joining procedures, Moreno did not forget to greet the fans of his new club through his personal official Instagram account, and said that he could not wait to represent the Premier League club.

In addition, upon Moreno's arrival, Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery also added: "Álex is an excellent player who can help our team. In the past few seasons, he has been one of the best left-backs in La Liga and we are delighted to have him here."

The 29-year-old Moreno was born on June 8, 1993 in Barcelona, the autonomous region of Catalonia, Spain. He is 1.79 meters tall and primarily plays as a left wing-back but can also be deployed as a left-winger.

Moreno joined the youth academy of a lower league club in Barcelona known as Vilafranca when he was young, and then moved to the Barcelona La Masia youth academy in the summer of 2011, but was released a year later.

After leaving Barça, Moreno played for Llagostera and Mallorca successively, and was one of the biggest contributors to the latter's successful relegation battle in the 2013/14 season of the second division.

In the summer of 2014, Moreno moved to Rayo Vallecano as a free agent, and completed his La Liga debut with the club in September of the same year. During this time, he was also loaned to Elche in August 2015. After returning to the club in the summer of 2016, Moreno officially became Los Franjirrojos' key player, and led the club to a second division championship in the 2017/18 season.

At the end of August 2019, Moreno joined Real Betis for €7 million.

Last season, Moreno played a total of 45 times for Los Verdiblancos in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and assisting 5 times, winning the Copa del Rey with the La Liga club in the process.
