La Liga Barcelona are reportedly considering signing Real Sociedad's No. 3 midfielder Martin Sowimendi, who has a €60m release clause in his contract with Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old Spanish midfielder joined the Real Sociedad youth team in 2011 as a 12-year-old, and Suwimendi's performances rose rapidly, before breaking into the first-team squad in April 2019. Over the past two and a half years, he has gone from a fantastic midfielder to a key player for Real Sociedad. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Suwimendi has made around 84 appearances for Real Sociedad so far, 32 of which have been in ongoing matches to turn things around.

Suwimendi's performance naturally caught the attention of Barcelona, the current 33-year-old Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is entering the twilight of his career, and his vitality on the field is beginning to be disturbed by the age limit. The situation also worries Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez. Harvey isn't giving up on the accomplished veteran, but is looking for a player to succeed him as a long-term roster prospect. Barcelona originally planned to make Inter Milan's No. 77 midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as a replacement for the veteran, and proposed a deal worth 8 million euros a year, but Brozovic refused because he would renew his contract with Inter Milan .

So Barcelona turned their attention to Suweimendi, a defensive midfielder. But Barcelona will face serious problems as the 23-year-old Spain international has a €60m release clause in his contract with Real Sociedad that restricts him from playing until June 2025. Barcelona, dealing with serious financial problems, are expected to be unable to afford the price clause and have had to move to lower-priced players.
