Berbatov: Solskjaer's decision to replace Cavani was right
2/13/2021, 19:41MANCHESTER - Former Manchester United (MU) player Dimitar Berbatov assessed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to replace Edinson Cavan when MU won 9-0 over Southampton on Wednesday (3/2) early last morning.
Cavani has started two matches this season. However, Solskjaer did not fully play the 33-year-old striker against Sheffield United.
The former Paris Saint-Germain striker scored one goal to make it 4-0 in the first half. After that, Solskjaer pulled Cavani and brought in Anthony Martial. Solskjaer argued Cavani had a bad tackle on his ankle. Martial then scored twice.
According to Berbatov, Solskjaer cleverly attracted the Uruguay national team striker. According to him, Cavani is an important player who adds a different dimension to Manchester United's attacks. "At 33 years old, using him sparingly is a smart move," said Berbatov as reported by the Manchester Evening News , Thursday (4/2).
Berbatov appreciated the 9-0 final score made by Cavani and his friends. According to him, this treats the heartache of the fans because they only drew against Arsenal and were beaten by Sheffield.
"(The victory) also adds to the coffers of goals. So it is important for the title competition," he said.
Not to forget, Berbatov also appreciated Martial's performance as a substitute. Two goals scored by the French passport striker proved Martial's quality after a goal drought.
