Sylvinho, who recently coached Corinthians, told reporters after signing an 18 -month contract: " We really want to do a good job, bring positive results and bring the Albanian national team to where it belongs. place. "
The 48 -year-old former player, who played for Arsenal and Barcelona, replaces Italian Eduardo Rea, who failed to lead the team to any major competitions during his three-year tenure.
"The contract runs until the end of 2024 , which shows that our main goal is to participate in Euro 2024 , and we have the opportunity to achieve that, " said Albanian FA president Armand Duka.
The only time Albania has participated in a major tournament was at Euro 2016 . They are in Group E qualifying with Poland, the Czech Republic, the Faroe Islands and Moldova for the 2024 tournament.
Sylvinho's coaching experience
The first coaching experience was Titus's assistant at Corinthias. In December 2014 , he moved to Black and White Milan and became Roberto Mancini 's assistant on the Inter bench. In 2016 , he was again Titus' right-hand man, this time with the Brazil national team. In 2019 , he tried his first experience as the first coach of a well-known club.
The French team Lyon entrusted him with the bench, but Sylvinho's experience in Ligue 1 was short-lived. He was fired in October 2019, only 4-5 months after taking office.
Then, in May 2021 , Sylvinho was named manager of Corinthias, where he resisted for almost a year after being sacked in February .
Sylvinho is currently out of work and waiting for a chance to prove his worth as a coach, as the Albanian national team could be a good springboard for the 48 -year-old Brazilian into a sought-after European league .
