Celta ended up signing Diego Alves Carrera, 37, from free agency after Agustín Malcesin ruptured his Achilles tendon in his left hamstring during training.

In July 2017, Diego Alves joined the Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo for 300,000 euros. In the past 5 years, he has played 182 games in total, 72 games with zero opponents, and won 2 Brazilian league titles, 2 Brazilian Super Cup titles, 1 Brazilian Cup title, 2 South American Copa Libertadores titles, and 1 Copa Libertadores de America Champion.
