Chiellini: Ronaldo should have left Juventus sooner
10/22/2021, 20:08JAKARTA -- Giorgio Chiellini thinks things would be better for Juventus if Cristiano Ronaldo went to Manchester United (MU) sooner. CR7 left for MU ahead of the close of the transfer market which had a bad impact on the Old Lady at the start of the season.
"We have reached a point in the relationship where Cristiano needs new incentives and a new team that can play for him. Because when he finds a team like that, he is decisive," Chiellini told DAZN , quoted by Marca, Thursday (21/10).
"He has proved it in the last few months and showed it in his three years with us."
He said Juventus had reached a point in the relationship where Ronaldo needed a new team to play for him. At the same time, Juventus is taking a squad rejuvenation policy. If Ronaldo stays, said Chiellini, it will be a plus for Juventus.
"We'd be happy to take advantage of him, but he's probably thinking more about the present than the future. He left on August 28th, it would have been better for us if he had left earlier. It's something we paid for, there's a bit of a surprise for you and I think we paid for it in terms of points.
Should Ronaldo leave on August 1, Chiellini thinks the Old Lady have time to prepare better.
Juventus started the 2021/2022 season in poor form, unable to win any of their first four Serie A matches. However, things have improved and the Bianconeri are now on a seven-match unbeaten run. Massimiliano Allegri's side will face rivals Inter Milan in the Derby d'Italia this weekend.
