Claudio Ranieri re-appointed as Cagliari head coach after 32 years..

Cagliari announced on the official website on Friday that veteran Italian coach Claudio Ranieri will be re-appointed as the club's new head coach from January 1, 2023.

According to Cagliari's official statement, Ranieri has signed a short-term two-and-a-half-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2025, and this will be the first time he will become the club's head coach again after 32 years .

After the news of his appointment as new head coach was confirmed, Ranieri once again accepted an interview from Cagliari's official website and said: "I will return to Cagliari, I've always knew that, even when I left, I've already said so."

"Cagliari made me understand that maybe I could be successful in my job and in those three years I found all the elements that helped me: the fans, the players, the assistant coaches, we are all together."

“During these days, you helped me make this decision, which was not easy for a variety of reasons. We were connected by mutual respect and love and we've made many great memories together. As a result, I've managed to get a big help, I can feel it and understand you better."

"For this, I come back with the same enthusiasm, love and passion, but I alone will not be enough. I need everyone's support to realize the dream of a club that desperately needs my help, and I will who sought my new players to work hard, our fans, yes, especially you, we need your enthusiastic support to push our beloved Cagliari where we want to be and to achieve the result we all so desperately want."

"I'm sure we'll all find ourselves pushing the team together, in the same direction, because that's what we want. Looking forward to seeing you all, Let's Go! Cagliari!".

The 71-year-old Ranieri once managed Cagliari from 1988 to 1991, led Casteduu to win the league titles for two consecutive seasons and back-to-back promotions from Serie C to Serie A, thus becoming famous.

After that, he served as the head coach of Napoli, Valencia, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Roma, Monaco and many other big clubs, but he is best known for leading Leicester City to the Premier League title against all-odds in the 2015/16 season.

Since being sacked by Watford at the end of January this year, Ranieri has been out of work ever since, and has only now returned to coaching.

Cagliari announced Fabio Liverani was sacked after losing to Parma on December 22, local time.

This season, as the favorite to win Serie B, Cagliari performed very poorly. After 18 matchdays, Casteduu who only achieved 5 wins, 7 draws and 6 losses are currently ranked 14th in the table, 3 points above the relegation zone.
