Compagno and Retegui called up to Italy squad due to shortage of strikers

Italy coach Roberto Mancini will recruit Andrea Compagno and Matteo Retegui into the squad to solve the shortage of strikers. The news was confirmed by several Italian media.

The duo will take part in two Euro qualifiers against England and Malta later this month.

Andrea Compagno

Andrea Compagno was born in Palermo on April 22, 1996. He mainly serves as a center forward on the field. He made his debut from Catania at the age of 17 and currently plays for FCSB in the Romanian First Division. In the past six months, Compagno played a total of 29 times, but scored 17 goals for FCSB.

Compagno's efficient attacking performance caught Mancini's attention. He made no secret of his admiration for Compagno in an interview with "Il Messaggero", "I have followed Compagno for two years. He always plays a role in the game and scores goals."

Matteo Retegui

Matteo Retegui was born on April 29, 1999 and has dual citizenship of Argentina and Italy. He once represented Argentina in the U19 and U20 championships, but was never selected for the senior team.

Retegui came from the Boca youth training and is a prolific shooter in the Argentine First Division. He has been loaned to Tigre by Boca for more than a year. So far, he has played 49 times in total, scoring 29 goals and 3 assists.

Tigre president Ezequiel Melarana confirmed the day before yesterday that Retegui will play for the Italian team in the future. He told TNT Sports: "Mateo will go to Italy next Saturday, the 18th, to play for their national team."

"We haven't had any calls from the Argentine national team. At least in Tigre," Melarana added later.
