Crotone Soluble Goals Eliminate Benevento's Chances of Avoiding Degradation
5/19/2021, 06:35 JAKARTA - The late goals scored by CROTON eroded Benevento's chances of avoiding the threat of relegation after the two teams drew 1-1 in Week 37 of the Italian League at Ciro Vigorito Stadium, Sunday (16/5).
The goal was scored by Crotone's top scorer, Simy, in the third minute of injury time with a close-range shot using Pedro Pereira's cross.
As a result, the advantage that Benevento had from the 19th minute was thanks to Gianluca Lapadula's goal and the hosts struggled to maintain until normal time just vanished.
Benevento actually had two more chances after Crotone equalized. The first of Adolfo Gaich's header to greet Riccardo Improta's cross was cleared by Crotone's defense.
Meanwhile, the final opportunity for Benevento, who was born through Gaetanlo Letizia's cross and Kamil Glik tried to finish from the middle of the penalty box ended up being secured by goalkeeper Marco Festa.
The result was all the more painful for Benevento as they had only faced 10 Crotone players since the 24th minute, as Vladimir Golemic received a straight red card for a foul on Lapadula.
One additional point made the two teams not move from their respective positions in the red zone standings.
Benevento remains in 18th place with 32 points, one strip above Crotone, according to the official Italian League website.
The team made by Filippo Inzaghi certainly hopes that their main competitor in the battle to avoid relegation, Torino (35), will lose in their postponed match week 25 against Lazio on Tuesday (18/5) next week.
Because if Torino gets just one point, then Benevento will certainly follow Crotone and Parma to be relegated to Serie B.
Meanwhile, in another Week 37 match played simultaneously at Friuli, Sampdoria took home all three points after beating hosts Udinese 1-0.
Aged striker Fabio Quagliarella converted a penalty in the 88th minute to seal Sampdoria's win.
Despite winning, Sampdoria did not move from ninth place in the standings with 49 points, while Udinese (40) remained in 12th place.
