England's latest squad: Ivan Toney named for the first time

England coach Gareth Southgate announced the new list, Brentford center Ivan Toney was selected for the first time, and Rashford and Sancho continued to be excluded.

As for the team's defensive candidates, England's No. 1 goalkeeper Pickford was rejected due to injury, and Eric Dier was called up again after 2 years.

The Three Lions will play their last two international matches ( the Nations League ) before this year's World Cup in late September. On September 23, England and Italy start a contest at San Siro. On September 26, they will face Germany at Wembley Stadium.

Ivan Toney

In a press conference after the call-up was announced, Southgate explained why Ivan Toney was selected. "We've been following Ivan Toney for a long time," he said. "Last season I had a friendly conversation with Thomas Frank about him. His form and strengths -- not just his progress. The ball, but also his technique, playmaking and aerial superiority - will give us a different threat than some of the other players."

Rashford

Regarding Rashford's defeat this time, Southgate said: " Marcus Rashford has shown encouraging signs of improvement recently. He is a player we are very familiar with, if he can play in the next few years. Playing at a high level during the week, of course he will be taken into account."

"We continued to call up some players this time, but it doesn't mean that some other players who were not selected are over."

Eric Dyer

" Eric Dyer has been great for a while," Southgate explained of why Dyer was selected. "He deserves to be in the national team and we know he's a great defender. He fits the culture of the team and has a lot of international experience and leadership."
