Equitorial Guinea international defensive midfielder Pedro Obiang extends contract with Sassuolo..





Sassuolo announced on the official website on Tuesday that the club has extended the contract of Equatorial Guinea international defensive midfielder Pedro Obiang.


According to Sassuolo's official statement, Obiang has agreed to a short-term two-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2025.


After completing his contract renewal procedures, Obiang did not forget to post a short video on Sassuolo's official Twitter account and said: "Hi everyone, I just had a very special birthday and I am very happy to tell you that, I will continue to work with the Sassuolo family to realize our mutual dreams."


"I will sign a new contract with the club and create more new memories together. This is also the most beautiful gift I have received at this important moment in my life. I have experienced amazing moments here with everyone, it seems that now our journey will continue together, and I promise everyone that I will give my best performance to every one of you fans who have supported us so passionately."


The now 30-year-old Obiang was born in Castel de Henares, Spain on March 27, 1992. He is 1.85 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder. He has dual citizenship of Spain and Equatorial Guinea. Obiang played for the Atlético Madrid youth academy when he was young, and later moved to the Sampdoria youth academy in 2008, where he completed his first-team debut in September 2010.


In the summer of 2015, Obiang joined West Ham United for €6 million. He won the Goal of the Season during the 2017/18 season for the wonderstrike which he had scored against Tottenham Hotspur.


In July 2019, Obiang returned to Italy to join Sassuolo for €7.5 million. In 2021, his career was suspended due to pulmonary bronchial chronic obstructive disease, and he only return from illness in October last year.


So far this season, Obiang has played 15 times for the Serie A side in all competitions and assisted 1 time.
