In March of this year,  Daei  was still present at the draw for the Qatar World Cup group stage.

Daei was said to have been arrested by police for planning to attend a rally in memory of Amini. This Amini was a young woman who died in custody for no reason after she was arrested for wearing a headscarf as "irregular".

Since the incident of Amini's death broke out, there has been a wave of protests against the release of the government across Iran. Daei also expressed his support for the demonstrations on social media many times and expressed his dissatisfaction with the government. In addition to Daei, former Iranian international Karimi and current national captain Azmon are all in support of the demonstrations.
