Fabrizio Romano hits out at fake news which claimed Liverpool had already signed Enzo Fernández..

Sky Sport's renowned Italian transfer news journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has hit out on a fake news which claimed that Liverpool had signed Argentina international wonderkid midfielder Enzo Fernández on his official Twitter account on Wednesday.

Romano refuted that, up to now, no club has made an offer to Benfica, and no party has activated Fernández’s release clause, hence every news which claimed that Fernández has already agree to join Liverpool or any other club are fabricated.

In addition, Romano also clarified that although Liverpool is indeed very interested in signing Fernández, Jude Bellingham is still their primary target, moreover the Reds will not spend €200 million to make signings in the winter transfer window consecutively.

At the same time, he also said that Liverpool and all the major clubs in the Big 5 European leagues understand clearly that by continuously putting in astronomical huge sums of money to make signings will risk the club being investigated by UEFA into whether the club has violated Financial Fair Play rules.

He pointed out that there is a €120 million release clause in the contract between Fernández and Benfica, but unless any club is willing to pay this amount of transfer fee, otherwise the Portuguese Primeira Liga giants have no intention of selling the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar champion and Silver Ball double winning Fernández.

On the contrary, Benfica President Rui Costa is currently working hard to provide Fernández with a new contract with better terms.

In fact, what Romano refuted was, by coincidence, the fake news released by a netizen by the name of Ivan Schwakoff on Twitter who claimed to be a resident Liverpool correspondent.

Schwakoff posted several tweets a few days ago saying that Liverpool had signed Fernández and Bellingham, and even said that the Reds would announce the news before Christmas.

Schwakoff is a netizen who has pretended to be a resident Liverpool correspondent on Twitter in recent years, and always loved posting fake news about transfers but yet boldly accuses other authoritative journalists of plagiarizing himself to claim credit.

It is worth mentioning that Schwakoff once pointed out in August 2021 that Arnaut Danjuma and Saúl Ñíguez had agreed to join Liverpool, and even boasted that if neither of them was officially announced as the Premier League giant's player, he will deactivate his account and quit Twitter, however he did not honour it, instead continued to cause troubles on the same social platform.

In addition, Romano's refute also indirectly crushed Portuguese outlet Record's report which claimed that Chelsea had activated the €127 million release clause to sign Fernández.

Since the start of this season, Fernández, who is only 21 years old, has played 24 times for the Portuguese Primeira Liga giants in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and assisting 5 times.
