FIFA's latest ranking: Argentina returns to the top of the list after 6 years

This Thursday, FIFA announced the latest men's national team rankings. Argentina, the winner of the 2022 World Cup, has returned to the top spot after a lapse of 6 years, followed by France and Brazil.

Argentina beat Panama and Curacao 2-0 and 7-0 in two friendlies in March. With Brazil losing 2-1 to Morocco, La Albiceleste leapfrogged their old rivals to become the highest-ranked national team in the world. France also moved Brazil behind after beating the Netherlands (4-0) and Ireland (1-0) in European qualifying.

Major intercontinental competitions are the main reason for this month's ranking changes. Serbia (25th, up 4 places), Scotland (36th, up 6 places) and Romania (46th, up 6 places) made significant advances in the Euro qualifiers, with Algeria (34th, up 6 places) ) and Egypt (35th, up 4) benefited from their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier wins, while Canada (47th, up 6) entered the top 50 after back-to-back wins in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The national team that has climbed the most this month is Central African Republic (122nd, up 10 places). In this qualifier, they qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after defeating Madagascar twice in a row, and their ranking also showed double-digit growth. However, Cameroon (42nd, down 9 places) has experienced the most significant drop after two games without a win.
