Football news: Poland's Lewandowski unsure if Qatar World Cup will be his last

Polish talisman Robert Lewandowski says he is preparing for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar as if it could be his last .

Poland's record goalscorer Lewandowski has enjoyed a stellar season for his La Liga club Barcelona , scoring 18 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Poland are in Group C of the World Cup and they start against Mexico on Tuesday. They will also face Argentina and Saudi Arabia.

" Is this my last World Cup? I don't know, " Lewandowski told reporters in Doha on Friday.

" I was preparing as if it might be my last World Cup, but I didn't say yes, I didn't say no. I realized I could still play four years later. "

Lewandowski said opponents could focus on marking his attack during games, a move that would allow Poland to try to take advantage of that.

key players absent

Asked about playing in Qatar's heat, Lewandowski said: " I've been to Doha many times before and I know what to expect. It's easier and more enjoyable for me to be here. "

" At the 2018 World Cup in Sochi , it was different, weird, not comfortable. But I don't feel that way here. "

Lewandowski said Poland were not favorites in their group, beating Chile 1-0 in a warm-up friendly in Warsaw on Wednesday before heading to Doha.

Head coach Michnievic opted to sit out some of his key players for that game, including goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny , playmaker Piotr Zelinski and Robert Lewandowski .

" Those who played against Chile will be considered for Mexico, " Michnievic said.
