Former Burnley head coach Sean Dyche appointed as Everton

Everton announced on its official website on Monday that the club has appointed former Burnley head coach Sean Dyche as its new manager.

According to Everton's official statement, Dyche has signed a short-term two-and-a-half-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2025. At the same time, Ian Woan, Steve Stone and Mark Howard will also join Dyche's assistant coaching staff.

After the news of his appointment was confirmed, Dyche, who was interviewed by Everton's official website for the first time said: "It is an honour to be the head coach of Everton. My staff and I are ready and eager to help this great football team get back on track.”

“I know Everton have a passionate fanbase and how precious this football will be to them. We are ready to work and ready to give them what they want. It starts with the sweat on the shirt, the hard work and the comeback Everton started with some basic principles that have been held to for a long time."

"We want to get back the good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity, we need everyone on the same page. It starts with us as staff and as players."

"Our aim is to create a team that is capable, always fighting and proud to wear the club's honourable badge. Because they are so passionate, the connection with the fans can grow very quickly."

"This team has quality. But we have to let them shine for the long term. That's what me and my staff aim to do."

"We want to change the shape of this club going forward, reshape it with our style, but in a way that we can win. That's the biggest task in front of us, and that's to make sure we're consistent both tactically and technically. Building the foundation, bringing the players together, letting them play freely, to enjoy their football, because when the team is playing with a smile, that's the best feeling, but only if we win."

Dyche, 51, was a legendary centre-back for non-league club Chesterfield in the early 1990s and represented Watford in the Championship in the early 2000s. After retiring in the summer of 2007, Dyche began to devote himself to the coaching industry and began to serve as a coach for the Watford U18s. Subsequently, he was promoted as the first-team head coach in 2011.

In September 2012, Dyche was appointed as Burnley's head coach. In the 9 and a half years of coaching the Clarets, he has led the team to promotion to the Premier League twice, and also successfully led the team to qualify for the Europa League in the 2018/19 season.

However, as main players were poached one after another and signings were not effective, when Burnley suffered crisis of relegation in April last year, the new American owners of Burnley suddenly announced Dyche's sacking, which once caused a lot of criticism from fans, media, journalists and insiders. Later, this change ultimately failed to allow Burnley to escape the fate of relegation and return to the EFL Championship.

Everton has been sanctioned for violating the Financial Fair Play (FFP) this season, coupled by the fact that they are selling off the main players of the team, and the British-Iranian largest shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, has poorly managed the club for many years, their performance to go from bad to worse, which eventually made former Chelsea and England legendary international midfielder Frank Lampard sacked.

After 20 matchdays, there only mustered 3 wins, 6 draws and 11 losses. Since October 29, 2022, Everton, who can't record a win accumulated 15 points, is currently 19th in the Premier League table. It is worth mentioning that Dyche revealed in an interview in 2017 that he was a loyal fan of the Toffees' local fierce rivals Liverpool. From the fact that the fans had been hostile to former Spain renowned head coach Rafael Benitez, it remains to be seen what reception the fans will have this time about the head coach whose allegiance is affiliated with the Reds.
