Franck Ribery Continues Career with Serie A Promotion Club
9/10/2021, 11:14 MILAN — Former Bayern Munich and Fiorentina player Franck Riberyakan has signed a one-year contract with promoted Serie A club ASalernitana, Goal reported on Monday (6/9).
Ribery has been "unemployed" since leaving Fiorentina at the end of the 2020-21 season, with La Viola deciding not to renew his contract after playing for two years at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
The 38-year-old winger was linked with a return to Bayern, but now it looks like he will continue his career in Italy's top flight.
Salernitana will reportedly give him a one-year contract. The Campania-based club will also have the option to extend Ribery's contract for another season if they manage to stay in Serie A.
More than 13,000 fans are expected to welcome the Frenchman to the Estadio Arechi as he becomes the most famous player in the club's 102-year history.
Ribery was greeted by Salernitana sporting director Angelo Fabiani and team manager Salvatore Avallone upon arrival at Naples' Capoichino airport.
Ribery is excited to begin this new stage of his trophy-laden career spanning more than two decades.
Ribery signed for Fiorentina on a free transfer in August 2019 after leaving Bayern, where he won nine Bundesliga titles and the Champions League and many other accolades while establishing himself as one of the top wingers in European football.
The former France international was unable to achieve the same feat for La Viola, but has still managed five goals and ten assists in 51 appearances across all competitions for the club.
If the transfer goes well, he will join his new team-mates this weekend to begin full training ahead of the resumption of the 2021-22 season.
Avallone lost their first two games before the international break, but Ribery's arrival could boost team morale when they travel to Torino on Sunday (12/9).
