AMSTERDAM -- Memphis Depay has returned to his craze with the Dutch national team. He just helped De Orange beat Turkey on the sixth matchday of Group G, 2022 World Cup Qualification, European Zone.
Acting as the host, Louis van Gaal's team beat the visitors, 6-1. Depay scored a hat trick in the duel at the Johan Cryuff Arena, Wednesday (8/9) this morning WIB.
Obviously, he was enjoying what had just happened. The Barcelona striker is doing very well.
"I'm having fun and I'm in really good shape," Depay said, quoted by UEFA.com.
He's just touched the number 27. That's the golden age in football.
It looks like the former Olympique Lyon is consistently sticking out spurs. Not only at the national team level, but also at the club.
"I've had a serious injury, some time ago. It's not easy to forget. I worked hard. Now I'm back," said Depay.
He also commented on his team's performance. According to the bomber, the Netherlands' performance against Turkey was better than the previous two matches.
This is the context for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, the latest edition. The Netherlands drew 1-1 with Norway, beat Montenegro, 4-0, and massacred Turkey 6-1.
"Obviously, we're also very productive. So that's a good signal for the whole team, the coach and everyone," explained Depay.
The result at the Johan Cryuff Arena made the Windmill Country team climb to the top of the Group G standings. Van Gaal's men collected 13 points from six matches.
The number of points is the same as that of Norway in second place. It's just that Erling Haaland and colleagues lost on goal difference to the Netherlands.
