'He's worth at least £40m' - Brentford boss Frank puts price on Raya

Brentford boss Thomas Frank admitted on Friday that a summer departure for David Raya was not ruled out.

"Twice he turned down the club's offer to renew," Frank told reporters. "Unfortunately, it's a sign that I think maybe he doesn't want to stay."

"We made two really good offers. But that's okay, it's a free world and we can't force anybody."

"I would like him to stay forever, but the contractual situation looks like it will be very difficult."

The 27-year-old David Raya is Brentford's first-choice goalkeeper, but he decided to move this summer with only one and a half years left on his contract. It is understood that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are all open to signing Raya, and Thomas Frank responded at a press conference.

"He has to be worth at least £40 million," Frank made clear. "If he had three years left on his contract, the offer would be £70m."

"How much is Kepa worth? Raya is at least as good as him."

David Raya is from Spain and joined Brentford from Blackburn Rovers in July 2019. So far, he has played 145 times for Brentford and 2 times for the Spanish team, accumulating 50 clean sheets.

Frank has always praised Raya's performance. "David has been fantastic for us since he joined from Blackburn three-and-a-half years ago," he said.

"He's brought great form to the Premier League and I think he's one of the best goalkeepers in the league today. He's very focused and he makes me happy every day at Brentford."

"He's one of the captains and he's leading his team-mates with his performance and behavior. He's a top guy."
