Lingard criticized for choosing Nottingham Forest over West Ham
2022-07-29 06:35LONDON - Former West Ham United defender Glen Johnson has criticized Jesse Lingard's decision not to join the East London club. Previously, the Hammers also made an approach to the former Manchester United.
Lingard chose to join Nottingham ForestFC. According to Johnson, it was because Forest offered more wages. There are no other factors that strengthen the midfielder's decision to go to the City Ground, other than this.
He thought Lingard didn't think much of it. The figure numbered 11 was only signed a year by the Garibaldi. While the Hammers offer a longer cooperation.
"He could have gone to West Ham on a three-year contract, and played in Europe. However, he would have made more money," Johnson said, quoted by Football London , Wednesday (27/7/2022).
Apart from the money factor, Lingard was familiar with the Irons dressing room. In the past, he had a loan spell at West Ham, from January to May 2021.
During that period, he appeared tergginas. The MU academy dropout scored nine goals in 16 Premier League matches. He helped David Moyes' polish squad win the Europa League ticket.
"On the contrary, he can fight the threat of relegation every week with Nottingham Forest. It takes hard work and will frustrate him," said Johnson.
Because they failed to recruit Lingard, West Ham did not lose heart. The Hammers have secured the signature of Gianluca Scamacca. Previously, the Italian national team striker strengthened Sassuolo.
West Ham also brought in Nayef Aguerd from Rennes and signed Flynn Downes. The last name is a former Swansea City midfielder.
The Irons also made Alphonse Areola permanent. The French goalkeeper has been based at the London Stadium since July 2021. Previously, Areola was on loan from Paris Saint Germain.
