Liverpool and Everton jointly condemned the latter

Liverpool and Everton issued a joint statement through their respective official websites last night, condemning the latter's fans for maliciously defacing the former's legendary players' murals and destroying the jointly run food bank after the Merseyside Derby.

According to Liverpool ECHO, the incident was exposed and acted as a whistleblower by Andy Heaton, a famous English Liverpool fan and YouTuber.

Heaton found a shocking number of malicious defacing and vandalism incidents when he was walking along the famous legendary players mural street near Liverpool's home stadium Anfield at around 5:00 local time, thus he posted a series of photos through his official Twitter account exposing the incident in the process.

In the photos released, murals of current players captain Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah; mural of two legendary "Miracle of Istanbul" captains Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard; and mural of strikers Ian St. John and Roger Hunt who played for the Reds during Bill Shankly's tenure as manager in the 1960s have been maliciously defaced and spray-painted in blue by Everton fans.

Even the donation boxes for the fans' food bank jointly operated by fans of various clubs in the Liverpool area could not escape the fate from being maliciously damaged with blue spray paint by the fans involved in the accident.

As soon as the tweet was publicly, it immediately attracted strong condemnation from Liverpool fans all over the world. Non-Liverpool fans all over the UK also condemned this behavior. Even the retired Reds Spanish legendary left-back José Enrique couldn't help but hit-out that the behaviour of these Everton fans who involved in the incident did not deserve to be forgiven.

As the incident began to be widespread, both Liverpool and Everton soon issued a joint statement on their respective official websites condemning the Everton fans responsible for the incident, reiterating that hatred behavior cannot be tolerated in football, and emphasizing that both sides hold zero tolerance towards such the barbaric and inferior behaviours that slander the character of others just because of their opposing stance. The two teams also said in a joint statement that the incident has been reported to Merseyside Police, and that the both Premier League clubs will fully cooperate and assist the police in all investigations.

In an interview, Dave Kelly, chairman of the Liverpool Fans Suppoting Foodbanks, also criticized the behaviour of the Everton fans who caused the incident, and emphasized that due to the security problems in the local area of Liverpool, there have been 4 consecutive murder cases recently. There are also many poor refugees who have lost their income and homes due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Fans should help each other on humanitarian grounds and not behave indecently just because they can’t see eye to eye with those of their opposing football club.

In fact, this is not such a disgusting behaviour by Everton fans in this Merseyside Derby. During the game, there were also Liverpool fans who attended the game complained that they heard part of the fans chanted "Ladyboy" in the local English dialect whenever the Reds' Uruguay international striker Darwin Núñez touched the ball.
