Luca Antonelli announces retirement after 16 years as a player

More than a year after parting ways with Miami FC, former AC Milan left-back Luca Antonelli has announced he is hanging up his boots.

"It was the right choice," Antonelli told Gazzetta dello Sport. "It's not easy to stop playing football. But this way, I will enjoy life with my family and my children more."

Luca Antonelli is 35 years old and started his career in 2006. As a player, he played for AC Milan, Bari, Parma, Genoa, Empoli and Miami FC. He played a total of 309 games, scored 18 goals and sent 21 assists.

Antonelli has only won 2 championship titles with AC Milan in his 16-year career, including 1 Champions League and 1 Italian Super Cup.

For the national team, Antonelli has only played 13 times for Italy in 16 years and sent 2 assists.

Personal plans after retirement

Although he retired from professional football, Antonelli still intends to engage in football-related work. "My first coaching course will start in July. I plan to start with the UEFA B coaching certificate." He then added: " That's my plan, my thoughts for now. Then we'll see what happens."
