Luka Modric Calls Real Madrid Bigger Than Kylian Mbappe
7/7/2022, 00:32MADRID -- Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has offended Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Kylian Mbappe, who refused to join the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Modric believes Los Blancos will remain strong with or without Mbappe.
In the news a few months ago Mbappe was one step closer to the Santiago Bernabeu. Mbappe said Madrid was his dream team. Mbappe never signed a contract extension before he finally accepted it which disappointed Madrid. Madrid has also made an offer but it was rejected by PSG.
"Mbappe made his decision, it was his right and now he is living with it," Modric told Sportske, quoted from Tribalfootball, Sunday (3/7/2022).
He revealed the Madrid squad thought Mbappe would come but that didn't happen. The Croatia international considers Mbappe a great player. But Modric insists no footballer is more important than the club. The greatness of Madrid remains above all players and always will be.
Modric became Madrid's comeback actor against PSG in the Champions League last season. Together with Toni Kroos in midfield he managed the team play. Madrid's hopes both persist despite the arrival of new signing Aurelien Tchoumeni.
He also talked about the existence of Lionel Messi at PSG. Modric admitted that after playing many El Clasico matches, he felt strange seeing Messi in the uniform of another team. As for Neymar and Mbappe, players with high talent. But Madrid then found the rhythm of the game plus the support of the fans so as to destroy them.
"It was a spectacular night, one of the most memorable for me. Since that victory the perception of the fans has changed regarding our potential in the Champions League, the skepticism has disappeared," he recalled the match against PSG.
