LONDON - Deputy captain of the England national team, Harry Maguire, defended his teammate, John Stones, who was considered to have made a blunder in the 2-1 win over Poland on Thursday (1/4) early morning WIB. Similar support was provided by the coach, Gareth Southgate.
England must painstakingly beat Poland in the 2022 World Cup qualification. Luckily, Harry Kane didn't waste a chance when he was given the task of kicking a penalty.
However, John Stones made a mistake so that it changed the goal for the opponent. In response to this, Gareth Southgate did not want to blame the Manchester City player.
"He has tried until the end of the game and contributed to our goals. He was very good this season. Despite making mistakes, he is aware of it," said Southgate as reported by Metro , Thursday (1/4).
Southgate satisfied with the victory picked by the Three Lions squad. He hopes that his players will remain in prime condition when they return to their respective clubs.
Meanwhile, Maguire also fully supports the Stones performance. Captain Mu didn't want to lower his teammate's mentality by bringing up mistakes.
"John has been brilliant this year. As fellow defenders, we made mistakes. But, we must not blame each other," said Maguire.
