Official: Freiburg and Hofler complete contract extension

Freiburg announced on Thursday the extension of Nicolas Hofler's contract period, but the specific information is still unknown.

The 32-year-old Nicholas Hofler came from the Freiburg youth training and mainly played as a defensive midfielder. On August 20, 2011, Hofler, who was loaned to FC Erzgebirge Aue by Freiburg, made his career debut in the Bundesliga as a substitute, and then helped the team achieve relegation for two consecutive years.

On June 30, 2013, Hofler, who had expired on loan, returned to Freiburg from FC Erzgebirge Aue. In the next 9 years, Hofler made a total of 280 appearances, scored 12 goals and sent 23 assists for Freiburg; although his reputation is not obvious, he has always been the team's most important player in the midfield position.

"A representative of the Freiburg way"

As Freiburg's CEO, Jochen Saier congratulates Hofler on his contract extension on behalf of the club. He believes that Hofler has become an iconic figure in Freiburg: "Chicco (Hofler) has been a core part of our team for many years. He dominates our game. His career and mentality really represent the the way of Freiburg."

"Renewal is the only option"

Following Jochen Saier, Hofler himself expressed his feelings. "Renewing the contract was my only option," he said. "I have been at this club for a long time and I feel very comfortable."

"When I look back at what we've accomplished on the pitch in recent years, I enjoy it. I want to keep going down that path."
