Official: Hertha Berlin midfielder Boetius diagnosed with testicular tumor

Hertha Berlin midfielder Jean-Paul Boetius, 28, will undergo surgery on Friday after being diagnosed with a testicular tumor.

Hertha Berlin said that Boetius' specific return time is to be determined, and the club will update the player's condition in due course. "Until then, out of respect for privacy, we urge you not to ask questions," the club continued.

Jean-Paul Boetius joined Hertha Berlin from Mainz in August this year on a contract until 2025. However, the Dutch winger, who only played six times (249 minutes) for Hertha Berlin, was diagnosed with a testicular tumor during a urology test on Wednesday. His last appearance was a week ago - in Hertha Berlin's 1-1 draw with Mainz, Boetius started and was replaced by Richter after 73 minutes.

Hertha boss Fredi Bobic offered his condolences to Boetius following news of his illness. "Although this news was unbearable for us at first, we still look forward to Paul's speedy recovery and return to us," Burbage said.

"He will have our full support until he returns. The Hertha family is by his side and wishes him all the best."

Boetius is one of four Bundesliga players diagnosed with testicular cancer in the past nine months, along with teammate Richter, Union Berlin defender Baumgartner, and Dortmund center Haller.

Richter had mild symptoms and returned to the court in mid-August after only eight weeks of treatment. Baumgartner and Haller have both undergone surgery and chemotherapy, but the former has fully recovered and Haller is still recovering.
