OFFICIAL: Real Sociedad extend Diego Rico's contract until 2025

Following Aritz Elustondo, the 30-year-old Diego Rico became the next Real Sociedad player to complete a contract extension. It has been confirmed that he will continue to play for Real Sociedad until 2025.

"A foreign player who has established a firm foothold in the club and integrated into it is no different from a youth player," Real Sociedad praised Rico in a statement.

"He is committed to defense and is an offensive threat because of his speed. He will continue to play for Real Club until 2025. Come on, Diego!"

Diego Rico wears the No. 15 jersey and mainly serves as a left-back on the field. He made his debut from Zaragoza when he was 20 years old, and joined Leganes three years later for 1 million euros. In July 2018, Rico went to England to play for Bournemouth. In three years, he made 83 appearances, scored 1 goal and sent 9 assists.

In July 2021, Rico returned to La Liga and signed a contract with Real Sociedad for 2 and a half years. He was initially excluded from the regular lineup for a long time due to muscle injuries. It was not until Aihen Munoz suffered a hamstring injury in October last year that he got a chance to play.

So far, Diego Rico has played 51 times for Real Sociedad, scoring 1 goal and sending 1 assist.

"I will stay in this family for two more years"

Rico is grateful for the trust of Real Sociedad. On the day of contract renewal, he told the official media: "When I hesitated due to injuries and loss of self at the end of last year and this year, the club respected me as much as possible. Thanks to the club and teammates for their trust in me, I will have two more years in this family."

Rico is also satisfied with his current life. "The staff, the city and the team have welcomed me from day one and treated me like part of the family. The humility and quality of the club make it a pleasure to come to training every day," he said.

"I will continue to work hard"

The Spaniard then set tasks and goals for himself: "My task is to send key crosses to help the team more. I will focus on work and training as much as possible, and I hope I can further improve myself."

"My main goal is to grow with Real Sociedad and get into Europe, and the game against Roma is another step in my career. I will keep working hard, I will never give up, I will improve offensively and try to create more chances, even goals."
