Official: Real Sociedad extend Oyarzabal's contract until 2028

This Friday, Real Sociedad signed a new contract with captain Mikel Oyarzabal.

"He is on his way to breaking all records," Real Sociedad said in a statement. "From day one, he has achieved one thing: to be admired, recognized and loved by his fan base. Mikel will continue to be a role model for everyone."

The 25-year-old Mikel Oyarzabal plays as a left winger, but can also play as a right winger or a midfielder. He entered the Real Sociedad echelon for training when he was 14 years old. In March 2015, he represented the boyhood club for the first time in the King's Cup.

In the next 7 years, Oyarzabal played 281 times for Real Sociedad, scored 80 goals and sent 49 assists. However, due to the rupture of the cruciate ligament, he only played 9 times in total in one year, during which he scored 1 goal.

Renewal Details

Oyarzabal and Real Sociedad were originally scheduled to end their contract in June 2024. The agreement has now been extended for four years until June 30, 2028. Real Sociedad are keen to show their faith in their players by extending their contracts.

According to a number of Spanish journalists, the Spaniard's buyout amount is still 75 million euros. Real Sociedad believes that 75 million euros is enough to dispel the interest of other clubs in Oyarzabal.

"Thanks for the trust of the club"

On the day of contract renewal, Oyarzabal did not hesitate to show his excitement and joy. "I'm very happy. It's always good to have a few more years with a team that I love, especially after what happened last year," he said. "The past year has been really difficult for me."

"I have to thank Real Sociedad for their belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to move on."

Oyarzabal later stated that he would be committed to promoting the development of Real Sociedad: "I am happy and proud of what I have achieved so far, but I hope to continue to achieve my goals and help Real Sociedad grow."
