Pep Guardiola rubbishes claims which suggest Erling Håland has a special release clause which allows him to join Real Madrid in 2024..2022-10-06 18:09
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has personally refuted the rumours that claimed new centre-forward Erling Håland has a special release clause in his contract that can be activated by Real Madrid in 2024.
Guardiola responded when asked by reporters at a post-match press conference following the club's 5-0 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League Group Stage. Guardiola said that Håland's contract does not have a special release clause for which Real Madrid can activate, in fact there is no release clause for any club whatsoever.
When the reporter asked him whether would feel annoyed about the rumour, Guardiola said that because it was simply a fake news, it does not worthy of his response at all. He also said that while he cannot control other people's irresponsible remarks, but the point is that any rumours that Håland can leave the team after the release clause is activated are false.
Guardiola also added that Håland is adapting very well at the club and that he feels Håland is very happy at the defending Premier League champions. Although he cannot control the future of the player, most importantly, he and the club will try their absolute best to keep Håland happy, and everyone at the club enjoys working with him very much.
The rumour comes from a Spanish TV show
In fact, the rumour which alleged that Real Madrid could activate a special release clause in the contract to sign Håland in 2024 comes from the famous Spanish TV's football talk show El Chiringuito de Jugones.
On the October 3, 2022 episode of this programme, Fernando Sanz, the former president of Málaga who came through Real Madrid's youth academy, told the host Josep Pedrerol as a guest that Håland's contract has a special release clause which allows him to leave the club at any time in the second year i.e. 2024, with Real Madrid as the priority.
He even said that since Håland is looking forward to joining Los Blancos, the La Liga giants may easily be possible to sign Håland without spending a penny.
Although El Chiringuito de Jugones is a famous Spanish football talk show, its content is often sensationalized. The show's controversial style which often acted as the mouthpiece of Real Madrid has also been disgusted by many people. In August 2021, even Cristiano Ronaldo has slammed the show by making baseless rumours which suggest he would return to Real Madrid.
