RB Leipzig close to signing Nyland after Gulacsi injury

RB Leipzig are on the verge of signing Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland to replace goalkeeper and captain Peter Gulacsi after a serious injury, reports Sky Sports in Germany.

Peter Gulacsi suffered an accidental injury in RB Leipzig's Champions League group game against Celtic on Wednesday and was substituted by Blaswich in the 13th minute. RB Leipzig updated Gulacsi's injury after the game, confirming that the player has ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee and will undergo surgery on Sunday.

Affected by the rupture of the cruciate ligament, Gulacsi basically ended the season ahead of schedule. In the absence of Gulacsi, although RB Leipzig has 3 backup goalkeepers, Jonas Nickisch (18 years old) and Timo Schlieck (16 years old) are currently inexperienced on the spot. Once  Blaswich suffers an injury, Leipzig will be stretched thin in the employment of goalkeepers.

As for RB Leipzig's newly signed goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, he will officially join next summer.

According to Sky Sports Germany, RB Leipzig finally chose to sign Orjan Nyland because he is one of the few goalkeepers with Bundesliga experience among the free agents. Nyland, 32, who has played for Molde, Ingolstadt 04, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Bournemouth and Reading, is out of service after leaving Reading on a free agent this summer to date.
