Sevilla sacked Julen Lopetegui following 1-4 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund..

Sevilla announced on its official website on Thursday that Julen Lopetegui has been relieved of his role as head coach with immediate effect, and the club will also be holding a farewell press conference for Lpetegui on 6 October 2022 at 12 noon local time.

After the news of his dismissal was confirmed, Lopetegui, who was interviewed by Sevilla's official website for the last time, said: "I have had a glorious and historic three years here, we have won the championship trophy, also qualified for the Champions League 3 times in a row, and this year we didn't start well, the club made a decision, even if I don't like it but I have to accept it. I want to thank those who helped me, Monchi (Director of Football), the board, my players, everyone, especially our fans, because you guys helped me accomplish what we've achieved. The recognition you've given me, I'll take it humbly because it's one of the greatest recognitions I've ever received."

"The fans are so smart and supreme these days, they know what's happened in these three-and-a-half years. Although my emotions is mixed, I want to thank everyone first and foremost, I don't want to think of a negative word to say goodbye to everyone."

"When you've experienced being a part of this club, that passion and enthusiasm which you've received will always be in your heart forever, just like the pleasure this city brings to me, my family and I will always cherish it in our hearts."

Has had brilliant achievements

The 56-year-old Lopetegui became Sevilla's head coach in the summer of 2019, during which he led the club to a Europa League title and ensured the club's status as a regular in the Champions League.

In January last year, Sevilla also renewed the contract with Lopetegui until 2024 to reward him for his extraordinary leadership skills, but this season, due to a poor start, during which the club only had 1 win in the first 7 matches of La Liga, and is currently languishing in the relegation zone by placing in 17th, coupled with the 1-4 home loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League Group Stage on Wednesday, Los Nervionenses eventually had to reluctantly part ways with him.

Future might have already been secured

Although Lopetegui has ended his relationship with Sevilla, he may soon find employment opportunities again. According to a recent report by the British outlet HITC Sports, Lopetegui is likely to become the new head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After losing to West Ham in the Premier League at the weekend, Wolves sacked Bruno Lage. Although they were intending to appoint Mainz's head coach Bo Svensson as successor, but Lopetegui is also listed as one of the club's candidates.

As for Sevilla, according to a recent report by Spanish outlet MARCA, the 62-year-old Argentine head coach Jorge Sampaoli is the most popular candidate as the club's successor.
