Shin Tae-yong Anticipates Singapore's Resurrection in AFF Cup Semifinals
12/23/2021, 02:05SINGAPORE -- The Indonesian national team will face Singapore in the first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals. The match between the two teams will take place at the National Stadium, Singapore, Wednesday (22/12).
The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Taeyong, anticipates the rise of Singapore. The Lions finished the preliminary round in the runner-up position in Group A after being defeated by Thailand 0-2 in their last match.
"Singapore matches that I watched live only against Thailand, the rest was via video matches. I feel that Singapore is still a good team, especially against the Philippines and Myanmar," Shin said at a press conference ahead of the match, Tuesday (21/12).
Singapore has nine points from four matches with three wins and one loss. According to him, the team should not be careless, let alone underestimate Singapore.
According to him, this could actually be a boomerang for the Indonesian national team considering that Singapore was under a lot of pressure after being defeated by Thailand. For that he asked the team to stay focused and play well in the match.
"So we must not be careless because we think Singapore is a good team. Of course we emphasize to the players to anticipate (resurrection) Singapore," said Shin.
Indonesian national team player Witan Sulaeman is also ready to answer the coach's challenge. According to him, the current team continues to improve in appearance and confidence continues to grow in every match that the national team plays.
"We think in every game we feel better than the previous match. Against Singapore we have to be more prepared and more focused," said Witan.
According to him, the key to beating Singapore is to stay focused throughout the match. In addition he knows that the coach's instructions on the pitch will be very useful for winning matches. "We have to work hard against Singapore," said Witan.
