Stefano Pioli doesn't want to rush to claim AC Milan as the favorite Scudetto
3/22/2022, 16:37SARDINIA -- AC Milan coach Stefano Piolitak wants to be too hasty in claiming his team are favorites to win the Scudetto this season after winning 1-0 against Cagliari in the Serie A match, at the Sardegna Arena Stadium, Sunday (20/3) early morning WIB. Ismael Bennacer's win for the Rossoneri brought them to the top of the standings with a three-point advantage over second-placed Napoli.
The 1-0 win was the third time in a row. Pioli said his team actually wanted to win with a big score but did not succeed. However, for Pioli the most important thing is that Milan won.
"We did great things, but we also know there are four teams that can still win the Scudetto. There is no point in looking too far ahead, there is still a long way to go and we just need to concentrate on our own path," Pioli said.
Pioli stressed that he was happy that Milan controlled the game and tried to win with a big score. He claims that attitude is what the team needs. Pioli admitted that he had analyzed the shortcomings of the previous matches.
Because the results of the analysis from the last game were very dangerous for Milan. According to him, Milan must attack well even by defending. Pioli then decided that Milan was not suitable to play deeper defensively.
"Cagliari caused us problems, but it's unavoidable when you have two teams with strong motivation," he said.
After this match, according to Pioli, every match is very decisive in the race for the Serie A title. And he liked his team in that match even when in the first half he was unable to score because he showed good intensity and quality of play.
On that occasion Pioli also praised the performance of Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria. He considered the two players to be wing-backs who tended to move in and often took part in creating goal-scoring opportunities.
"I'm lucky to have two players who are very intelligent and can read spaces. Cagliari were very aggressive on the flanks today, so we had more space inside and they were chasing space. Everything becomes easier when you have smart players who can read the game well," said Pioli.
