Higuain also said the attacks from social media had hurt him deeply, especially after he made a mistake in a crucial game for Argentina. "There’s kind of toxic feeling around football on social media. You can’t imagine the damage that comments on social networks do," Higuain said. The Argentine believes that cyberbullying was a big factor in his retirement: "I was really suffering, my family helped me. So, people should think before attacking on social media - it's really serious topic."


Even so, Higuain is still grateful for his 9-year national team career, "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone in the Argentine national team, we have participated in 9 years of friendly matches, championships, World Cups and the Americas.
