Thiago Silva Signs New Chelsea Contract Until 2023
1/4/2022, 16:37LONDON -- Chelsea have confirmed defender Thiago Silva has signed a new contract until the end of the 2023 season. The 37-year-old was an important part of Thomas Tuchel's scheme last season and remains the Blues' top line back this season.
Silva, who will become a free agent this summer, has started 14 Premier League games for Chelsea this season. He is so sturdy to be conquered by opposing attackers. The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player will stay longer at Stamford Bridge.
"Playing here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here at this great club, so I am very happy to stay for another season," Silva told the club's official website, quoted by Sportsmole , Tuesday (4/1/2022).
He thanked the family, club and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic for their trust. He is determined to give everything for this club, as well as the supporters who have always supported him since his arrival.
He said it was amazing to have a great relationship with fans, players, staff and everyone involved at the club. He stressed that he would give all his energy to continue playing at the highest level in the Premier League.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia praised the figure of the Brazil international. According to him, Silva is an experienced player and has a leadership spirit. Silva, he said, has a very important role for his squad. Therefore, he is very happy that Silva is willing to extend the contract.
"We look forward to his continued influence as we look for trophies this season and the next, and more of the qualities that have made him have such a huge impact on us on and off the pitch," Granovskaia said.
Silva arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2020 after his contract with PSG expired. He has made 56 games in all competitions since joining Chelsea and has scored four goals and provided two assists. A slick collaboration with Tuchel was established when both of them worked for PSG.
