This is the reason Wijnaldum chose to join Barcelona
5/27/2021, 15:41 BARCELONA - Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum's move to Barcelona is just a matter of time. Reportedly, the player wants to reunite with coach Ronald Koeman.
Liverpool paid tribute to Wijnaldum in the final match of the Premier League aka Guard of Honor.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool's match against Crystal Palace, Wijnaldum said he was eager to stay longer with the Anfield Gank.
"But, unfortunately things are different. I think everyone knows, in football anything can happen, but the situation now is that on July 1 I am not a Liverpool player anymore," Wijnaldum said as quoted by Sportskeeda , Wednesday (26/5).
Barcelona is the ideal destination for Wijnaldum. The Netherlands international could play an important role next season with the club going through a massive rebuild this summer.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is reportedly going to sell players, such as Miralem Pjanic and Philippe Coutinho. Practically, Wijnaldum will be perfect in the Los Azulgrana midfield with Frenkie de Jong and young players Pedri.
Wijnaldum has had an extraordinary career with Liverpool. The 30-year-old player was brought in in 2016 from Newcastle United and has always been in the Reds' starting main.
He featured in an incredible 178 Premier League games for Liverpool out of a possible 190, missing just 12 games in five seasons, Wijnaldum was an integral part of the Liverpool team that won the 2019 Champions League and Premier League last season.
