'We won't renew his contract' - Borussia Dortmund to part ways with Dahoud this summer

Mahmoud Dahoud will part ways with Borussia Dortmund this summer, confirmed by Sebastian Kehl.

"We will not renew his contract"

"I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo last week. I told him that we will not renew his contract this summer," Dortmund sporting director Kehl told Bild in an interview on Monday.

"Momo has been with us for six years, he is a fantastic footballer and I think highly of him both on a sporting and personal level. Nevertheless, we have decided to take this step."

Mahmoud Dahoud is 27 years old, and he mainly plays a midfielder on the field. He made his debut in Borussia Mönchengladbach when he was 18 years old, and was recruited by Dortmund for 12 million euros in 2017. Today, Dahoud has played a total of 137 times, scoring 5 goals and sending 16 assists for Dortmund. However, he never made the leap to Dortmund's undisputed regular.

It is understood that Dahoud and his agent held talks with Kehl Kyle last Thursday, and the two parties finally reached a consensus on parting ways. Dahoud will leave Dortmund as a free agent when his contract expires this summer.

During the conversation, Kyle also promised Dahoud playing time to facilitate his search for the next club after leaving the team. It is reported that AC Milan, Naples, Sevilla and Leicester City have all expressed their intention to sign Dahoud this summer.

“I am very much looking forward to new challenges”

Shortly after Sebastian Kehl made his statement, Dahoud immediately responded through Sport1. "I had a great time at Dortmund, the fans always supported me. So there is a special bond between us. I'm very grateful for that," he said.

The German midfielder later added that he will still be committed to achieving the team's goals: "Until the summer, I will fully focus on Dortmund and hope to help achieve our goals. If the team needs me, I will appear on the field 100%!"

"I'm very much looking forward to new challenges. I definitely want to play at a high level in a top league, but my team will take care of that. I'm a footballer. That's my focus. Everything comes in the summer. In the summer."
