Winning from Rennes, Lille Keeps Asa in the French League Standings

Lille put PSG at the top of the French League standings after defeating Rennes 0-1

JAKARTA - Lille continues to stick closely to Paris Saint-Germain who occupy the top of the standings thanks to a narrow victory from host Rennes 1-0 in Week 21 of the French League which took place at the Roazhon Park Stadium, Sunday (24/1).

Jonathan David recorded Lille's only winning goal in the first half, according to the official French League page records. W ith the addition of three points, Lille are now collecting 45 points, or equal to that of PSG. However, the club from the capital is still superior on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Rennes ended their seven game trend without defeat and remained in fifth position with a collection of 36 points.

Statistically, Rennes controlled the game with an average ball possession of 68 per cent but that was not matched by finishing accuracy when only two of their 11 attempts went on goal.

Since the whistle started, Rennes immediately threatened the visitors' defense. Through a quick attack scheme, Faitout Mouassa fired a hard kick from outside the penalty box which the Lille goalkeeper could still save.

Lille just created opportunities in the 14th minute through the action of Jonathan David, unfortunately his shot was pushed over by Rennes goalkeeper Romain Salin through his foot. David did not waste a second chance when he was able to finish the ball throwing off Salin from a corner to put Lille 1-0 up.

The host tried to get back from behind by Clement Grenier's feet. Unfortunately, his right foot shot outside the penalty box widened narrowly on the right side of the Lille goal guarded by Mike Maignan. Lille, who are under pressure, do not remain silent.

At the end of the first half of the match, Sven Botman almost took Lille away if only his long distance shot didn't soar too much. In the second half things were not much different, Rennes remained in control of the game.

However, the discipline of Lille's defenders made a number of easy opportunities to be broken, forcing Rennes' players to shoot kicks from outside the penalty box and often the direction of the ball was in no way. Score 1-0 for Lille's victory remained until the long whistle.
